The organisers are pleased to announce that registration and abstract submissions are open for the ANN Congress 2023 at the Surfair Events Centre in Marcoola on the Sunshine Coast. The programme has been developed to offer something to all members of the ANN whether primarily a researcher, clinician or member of a pharmaceutical organisation.

Researchers have the opportunity to submit an abstract to showcase their work in either an oral presentation or a poster. Please see below for more information.

The organisers are very excited to welcome Professor Volker Straub to the Sunshine coast to deliver two plenary presentations, the first focused on Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophies and the second highlighting a recently discovered muscle disease.

Prof. Straub trained as a paediatric neurologist at the University of Düsseldorf and the University of Essen in Germany. He wrote his PhD thesis on Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in Dr Kevin Campbell’s laboratory at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, USA. He joined the Institute of Genetic Medicine at Newcastle University, UK, in 2003.

Professor Straub has a long-standing interest in the pathogenesis of genetic muscle diseases, with research involving zebrafish and mouse models, the application of magnetic resonance imaging, next generation sequencing and other –omics technologies.

One of Professor Straub’s main interests in muscle diseases is around translational research. He was the co-founder of the EU FP6 funded network of excellence for genetic neuromuscular diseases, TREAT-NMD (https://treat-nmd.org/), and he continuous to be involved in many large European projects funded by the EU. He is the Chief/Principal Investigator for several natural history and interventional trials in DMD, LGMD, Pompe disease, spinal muscular atrophy, and other NMDs. He is the current president of the World Muscle Society and an author on over 400 peer-reviewed publications.

Call for Abstracts:

If you would like to share your research project with the scientists, medical, allied health and nursing clinicians in the ANN community, please submit a 250 \-word abstract using the submission template (below) via email to [email protected] with “ANN 2023 Abstract submission” in the subject line or click on the link below.

Submission guidelines

· The presenting author must be registered to attend the ANN 2023 meeting

· Opportunities will be available for oral presentations (strictly 7 minutes talking time only) and conference posters

· All abstracts must be submitted by 5pm March 31, 2023

· Maximum word count for abstracts is 250 words

· All authors will be notified of their submission outcome by April 14, 2023

· There will be prizes for best poster and oral presentations
